Construction of buildings on peat soils requires good investigation and processing of the soil prior to the construction process. Peat soil is a land with high water absorption characteristics. Therefore, land improvement is needed to increase the carrying capacity of peat soil. The addition of the synthetic gypsum and kaolin is expected to alter the physical properties of the soil and increase the carrying capacity of peat soils in the region. Method of improving the state of the soil used is by chemical means. This study used synthetic gypsum and kaolin as added ingredients, with kaolin variations of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and synthetic gypsum 15% of the soil sample weight. From the variation of the mixture, the optimum percentage value of 15% kaolin and 15% synthetic gypsum has a specific gravity 2.5692, liquid limit of 63.4260%, plastic limit of 33.9126%, plasticity index 29.5134%, shrinkage limit of 15.8810%, cohesion 0.7626 kg / cm2, and shear angle value 66 ° 45'26.89 ''.
