In the process of generating electricity the change in load often results in the generator voltage changing so that there is a process to stabilize it called the excitation system. Excitation system is a process of giving reinforcement in the form of direct current which is flowed towards the field coil contained in the rotor in the generator. Excitation currents that flow in the coil of the rotor field will cause magnetic flux. In the Suralaya PLTU units 1 - 4 use a brushless excitation system. As for regulating this excitation current using AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator). If the generator voltage is below nominal, the AVR will stabilize the voltage by increasing the gain current (excitation current) and otherwise. In addition to the voltage changes the excitation current also affects the high and low reactive power produced. If the excitation current is added then the reactive power will increase while the power factor will decrease and otherwise.} }
