At some isolated islands where electricity supply is mostly supplied by diesel generators, the integration of PV power plants effect significantly not only production quality but also system reliability. For dealing with this issue, some studies suggest to utilize energy storage on the existing system. This study investigated the optimization of hybrid diesel and PV power plant by utilizing battery storage system. It includes a capacity and engineering study, an economic analysis, power integration study and the impact to the existing distribution network system. The study is conducted at Nusa Penida island, Bali with solar irradiance is 5,36 kWh/ m2 /day. Recently the electricity for this resort island is supplied by 7 x 1,7 MW diesel power station through 20 kV distribution network. The design, simulation and techno-economic analysis were carried out using Homer Pro software and Power flow analysis by ETAP tool. From several tested scenario, the study found that the optimum of hybrid power plant consist of PV10 MWp and battery storage 10 MWh producing electricity with LCOE 9.45 c USD/kWh. It reduces the electricity production to 40% of the current price. This study emphasized that renewable energy penetration at micro grid islands can be increased by utilizing energy storage technology optimally.} }
