The function of the distribution substation is to distribute the network to PLN consumers, with one of the most important components being the 3 phase transformer. In its installation, a 3-phase transformer is placed in an open area, so that it often experiences interference due to lightning strikes. During semester 1 of 2022 the Jepara 02 feeder experienced a 3-phase transformer disturbance 5 times as a result of lightning impulses. This study discusses how lightning arresters work in protecting equipment with construction before and after the arrester changes position, the ideal protection distance for lightning arresters and transformers, the performance of lightning arresters after changing positions in new construction, and the impact of differences in construction in installing lightning arresters in PLN ULP Jepara. This study used field observation methods and then studied and collected data by searching for literature in the form of references to relevant books and journals on the internet. From the results of data analysis and calculations then simulated with ETAP so that the maximum protection distance of the lightning arrester and the transformer is 0.6 meters. The distance between lightning arresters and transformers with the old construction in the field is 3.75 meters. After using the new construction according to SPLN D5.006. In 2013, the distance between lightning arresters and transformers in Jepara 02 became 0.6 meters. This distance makes the peak lightning current that can be received from the lightning arrester higher, namely 1467.27 kA, and there is an increase in the performance of the lightning arrester by 205.19% after changing the position of the lightning arrester.} }
