Lestari Banten Energi. In the material chain submerged scraper conveyor (SSC) damage was found in the form of eroded chains. The condition of the broken chain has thinned on the inside and outside. To find out the root cause of chain damage, a study and research which includes visual observation and analysis of several tests such as hardness testing, metallographic testing to determine the microstructure, tensile testing to determine the tensile strength of the chain, and SEM-EDX to determine thickness and content chemical elements in parts of the chain that experience erosion. Visual observations, it was found that the crust or brownish-black deposits indicate the chain has been corroded. The hardness test results obtained that the chain hardness is 708.4 HV (average value of the hardness of the test sample), where the value of this hardness is far below the chain standard of 800 HV (min). The tensile test results obtained by the tensile strength of the chain that is 1215 MPa. In metallographic testing when not yet etched, void structures were found which indicate corrosion in the chain. After etching, the cementite and martensite and void phases are still visible (in the affected area), whereas in the normal areas no void structure is found. The SEM-EDX test found other chemical elements such as oxygen (O), aluminum (Al), and copper (Cu).} }
