Disturbance in transmission line such as: three phase short circuit, two ground phases and one phase to ground. Protection system is needed to neutralize the disturbance that occurs in the transmission system. One of the protection systems used to neutralize the disturbance with a distance relay. This distance relay measures the voltage at the relay point and the disturbance current seen from the relay, by dividing the magnitude of the voltage and current, the impedance to the point of occurrence of the disturbance can be determined. The distance relay will work by comparing the measured interference impedance with the impedance setting. The basic principle is based on the characteristics of the distance protection distance measurement disturbances that can be set up more than one zone of protection.
