A grounding wire is a medium voltage overhead line protector against due to direct strike and indirect strike. In addition to the grounding wire, the arrester also behaves as a protective device (transformer and wire) of medium voltage overhead line. In purpose to understand the effect of grounding wire installation at the medium voltage overhead line then a research of lightning disturbance at the medium voltage overhead line is conducted before and after the installation of grounding wire. This study will also look at the effect of arresters mounted on the medium voltage overhead line. The arrester is used to protect the medium voltage overhead line equipment, but also has a protective effect on the medium voltage overhead line due to the distance arrester. This research was conducted on the medium voltage overhead line Protokol feeder of PT. PLN (Persero) Depok Area. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of the installation of grounding wire as medium voltage overhead line protector and the use of arrester as protective equipment. From the calculation result of total arrest range of arresters at the medium voltage overhead line is 2,724 km. The number of lightning disturbances at the medium voltage overhead line before the installation of grounding wire installed is 3,477 disruptions/year and after installation of grounding wire of 1,932 disruptions/year. So, the reduction number of lightning disturbances after installation of the grounding wire is 44,434 %.} }
