The population of this study is the 8th grade of SMP Negeri 1 Sidikalang which consist of 5 parallel classes. Two parallel classes were chosen as samples to represent the entire population. The design of this study is quasi experimental design. The instrument of data collection is multiple choice (35). Based on data analysis, the average of post test for Jigsaw class is higher than STAD class ( Jigsaw class = 93.33 >STAD class = 86.67) and based on the calculation of t-test, tobs 4.280> ttable = 1.628), at the level of significance of 0.05 and the degree of freedom (df) was 39. The comparison of the cognitive achievement is 1 : 0,9 means that there is a significance difference between applying Jigsaw and STAD model on students cognitive achievement in Growth and Development Topic. Jigsaw improves student cognitive achievement more than STAD does.} }
