		abstract={In this research, the researcher was interested in knowing the students? ability in comprehending English texts at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Batu. One of the important things in comprehending English text was making sense out of text. It means that the students acquired information from context and combine disparate elements into a new whole. The objective of this research was to know the students? ability to comprehend the text at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Batu. 
This research was descriptive qualitative research as design. The population was 120 students. They were divided into three classes and each class consisted of 40 students. The researcher took each class 10 (25%) students randomly as sample so the total number of the sample was 30 students. The data was collected by using a test. 
The result of this research showed that the most of the result of test was 12 students (40 %) got score (55 ? 64) and classified into fair. Then, 11 students (37 %) got score (65 ?79) and classified into good. The last, 7 students (23 %) got score (45 ?54) and classified into poor. Thus overall, the researcher concludes that the students? ability to comprehend the text was fair. It can 
be seen from the mean score of students? test result was 61.6.}
