Media are several of tools which are used by the teacher to transmit ideas to the students. Generally, there are three kinds of instructional media, they are: visual, audio, and audio­visual media. For the teachers, media have function as helper, supporter, and mediator in teaching learning process. This study aimed to know the kinds of media used in teaching English at SD Muhammadiyah 08 Dau Malang, and to know the strengths and weaknesses of the using media in teaching English according to the teacher at SD Muhammadiyah 08 Dau Malang. The research design used in this study was descriptive qualitative design. The instruments used to collect the data ware interview and observation. The subject of this study was the English teacher at SD Muhammadiyah 08 Dau Malang. The result of this study showed that the teacher used several media in teaching English; they were real object, picture file, flash card, pocket chart, and tape recorder. The teacher used the media for teaching each English skill. In the teaching process, the media could give the strengths in the teaching English. The media could help the teacher in transferring the material and improve the students’ interest in learning English. In implementing the media, the teacher, however; faced some problems. The teacher could find many weaknesses in using the media. The weaknesses were about time allotment, budget, suitable class and skill in operating the media. The researcher would like to give some suggestion that the teacher should maintain the using of media appropriately by following the seminar or short course and enhance the various references, and also the teacher should evaluate the weaknesses and the benefit after using that media in teaching English.} }
