The method used in this study is quantitative in the form of quasi experiments with posstest only control design. The population in this study is the tenth graders VII SMP Negeri 1 Kadudampit academic year 2017/2018 which amounted to 428 learners. Insrumen of this research is critical thinking ability test, motivation study questionnaire and observation sheet. Technique Analysis of this research is anova test of two different cell road. The result of this research are (1) There is difference of critical thinking ability between learners using discovery learning model with learners using direct learning model; (2) There is a difference of critical thinking ability of learners who have high learning motivation with learners who have low learning motivation; (3) There is no difference in critical thinking ability between learners using discovery learning model with learners using direct learning model in terms of learning motivation level; (4) In the discovery learning model the critical thinking ability of learners who have high motivation is better than the low motivated learners; (5) In direct learning model, critical thinking ability of learners who have high motivation is better than low motivated learners; (6) In high learning motivation, critical thinking ability of learners using discovery learning model is as good as learners using direct learning model; (7) In low learning motivation, critical thinking ability of learners using discovery learning model is as good as learners using direct learning model.} }
