This research has two objectives. The first is to reveal thearchetypes of the hero in the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and the second is to reveal thearchetypes of the hero journey in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Jung's archetype isemployed in this research, along with Campbell's theory of hero journey as proof ofthe quality of a hero character in this story. This research used the qualitative approach. The data are some sentences and utterances showing the archetypes ofheroes and hero's journey. The data analysis deals with the process of reducing data,data displays and conclusion drawings. The results of this study state that Dorothy, as the main character, is a hero, judging from the suitability of the character with hero archetypes by Jung, as well as her life journey which is in accordance with the patternof the journey of the hero in Joseph Campbell's theory. First, there are threearchetypes of hero in this story employed, namely innocent, orphan, and caregiver hero. Second, there are mainly eleven stages among twelve stages of the archetypesof hero?s journey found, namely Ordinary World, Call of Adventure, Meeting withthe Mentor, Crossing the First Threshold, Test, Allies and Enemies, Approach to the Inmost Cave, The Ordeal, The Reward, The Road Back, The Resurrection, andReturn with the Elixir with the absence of one stage namely Refusal of The Call.} }
