ABSTRACT

In Gunelap village there is a giving of Breget tradition which is still occur. In Gunelap society, a groom who is going to marry must give some money to the bride's family at least a week before marriage settlement. Then the money is given by the bride's family to headman. There is no clear and definite source when this tradition is begun. Nevertheless, the society has been implemented the tradition from ancient times until now.

The purpose of this research are two; 1). Why does the giving Breget become tradition in Gunelap village, Sepulu district, Bangkalan regency? 2) How is the contradiction of Gunelap village society about the impact of giving of Breget in conflict theory of Ralf Dahrendorf?

This research uses empirical qualitative approach. Data collecting method by using observation, interview, and documentation. The analysis is done by data reduction, data verification and data analyzed. The checking of data validity is done by triangulation method.

The result of this research reveals two findings: 1). The giving of Breget before marriage settlement is required in Gunelap village. The marriage will be disturbed if the Breget nomey is not given by the groom because this provision has become a tradition that prevails from ancient times until now. However, nowadays, the tradition is getting conflicted in the social life of Gunelap society. 2) the contradiction of Gunelap society against the tradition indicate the truth of conflict theory of Ralf Dahrendorf which states that the society has two faces i.e. consensus and contradiction. The contradiction of giving of Breget before marriage settlement is caused by the pressure of headman as a superordinat who has authority in determining Breget to the groom as a subordinat who is required to give Breget before marriage settlement. The communities involved in this contradiction are divided into two groups i.e. headman is as a pseudo-group and society especially the groom is as an interests group

ABSTRAK

Menjelang perkawinan di Desa Gunelap terdapat tradisi yang sampai saat ini masih berlaku, yaitu tradisi pemberian Breget sebelum akad perkawinan. Dalam masyarakat Gunelap seseorang yang hendak menikah, minimal seminggu sebelum akad nikahnya, calon mempelai laki-laki harus memberi sejumlah uang kepada pihak keluarga calon mempelai perempuan, kemudian oleh pihak calon mempelai perempuan diberikan kepada kepala desa. Tidak ada sumber yang jelas dan pasti sejak kapan awal mula diberlakukannya tradisi ini, akan tetapi masyarakat melakukan tradisi ini sejak dulu sampai sekarang.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini yang pertama adalah mengapa masyarakat Desa Gunelap, Kecamatan Sepulu, Kabupaten Bangkalan mentradisikan Bregat dalam perkawinan? Kedua adalah bagaimana pertentangan masyarakat Desa Gunelap, Kecamatan Sepulu, Kabupaten Bangkalan akibat tradisi Breget ditinjau dari teori konflik Ralf Dahrendorf?

Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif empiris. Pengumpulan data dengan cara observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis dilakukan dengan reduksi data, verifikasi data dan analisis data. Sedangkan pengecekan keabsahan data dilakukan dengan metode triangulasi.

Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) Pemberian Breget sebelum akad perkawinan yang terjadi di Desa Gunelap bersifat wajib. Apabila calon mempelai laki-laki tidak memenuhinya, maka dapat menghambat perkawinannya, karena menurut masyarakat k}
