ABSTRACT The study is aimed to reveal: 1) the effectiveness of Teams Games Tournament Type of Cooperative Instructional Model compared to the conventional instruction in increasing students' motivation in learning mathematics; 2) the effectiveness of Teams Games Tournament Type of Cooperative Instructional Model compared to the conventional instruction in increasing students' achievement in learning mathematics. This study is a pseudo-experimental study with the use of Pre Test and Post Test Design. The independent variable in this study is Teams Games Tournament Type of Cooperative Instructional Model and the dependent variables are students' motivation and achievement in mathematics. The population of the study is the students of grade 5 at MIN Malang I in the 2015-2016 school year. The sample of the study includes 30 students of class VD (controlled class) and 30 students of class VH (experimental class) applying Teams Games Tournament Type of Cooperative Instructional Model. The method of data collection in this study are questioners and pretest-posttest. The questioners data was then analysed using Sign Test Non Parametric statistic data analysis. Meanwhile, the data collected from the pretest-posttest was analysed using T-Test with the condition that the test of normality and homogeneity were conducted prior to the T-Test itself. The result of the study shows that: 1) there is significant difference in learning motivation between students using Teams Games Tournament Type of Cooperative Instructional Model in learning mathematics and those using the conventional instructional model, and 2) there is significant difference in learning achievement between students using Teams Games Tournament Type of Cooperative Instructional Model in learning mathematics and those using the conventional instructional model. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui: 1) efektifitas model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Teams Games Tournament (TGT) dibanding pembelajaran konvensional terhadap motivasi belajar matematika siswa; 2) efektifitas pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Teams Games Tournament (TGT) dibanding pembelajaran konvensional terhadap prestasi hasil belajar matematika siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen semu dengan menggunakan desain Pre Test And Post Test Design. Variabel penelitian ini terdiri dari variabel bebas yaitu model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe TGT, sedangkan variabel terikat yaitu motivasi dan prestasi belajar matematika siswa. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas V MIN Malang I tahun pelajaran 2015/2016. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 30 siswa dikelas VD (kelas kontrol) dan 30 siswa di kelas VH (kelas eksperimen) menggunakan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe TGT. Metode pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini mengunakan angket dan pretest-posttest. Teknik analisa data angket menggunakan analisis data statistik non parametrik Uji tanda (Sign Test). Dan data pretest-posttest menggunakan uji -T yang sebelumnya dilakukan uji prasyarat yaitu uji normalitas dan homogenitas.
