ABSTRACT Individual differences are found in language learners. The limited knowledge and understanding of teachers about individual differences of learners related to language learning, cause them to equalize the condition of the learners in the class. It impacts on the choice of teaching methods that are less appropriate with the condition of the learner in general. This study aims at investigating the correlations between the personality traits of Dayakese and Banjarese learners, their beliefs, their strategies and their achievement in learning Arabic and exploring the Dayakese and Banjarese learners? beliefs about language learning and their Arabic Language learning strategies based on their personality. The mixed method with sequential explanatory design was used. The samples of the data were 68 of 85 Dayakese learners in the central Borneo province and 127 of 200 Banjarese learners in the south Borneo province. The quantitative data were collected by using the Big Five Inventory (BFI), Beliefs about Language Learning Inventory (BALLI) and Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL). The qualitative data were collected by using interview, observation, and documentation. The quantitative data were analyzed by using co-efficient correlation, regression and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis. The qualitative data were analyzed by using data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of the study can be explained as follow: 1. there are statistically significant correlations between the openness to experience trait of the Dayakese and Banjarese learners, between their beliefs and strategies, and between their strategies and achievement. 2. There are statistically significant multiple correlations between the personality traits of learners, their beliefs and their strategies each other. The Language learning strategies mediate the indirect relationship between openness to experience trait, beliefs and achievement. 3. The Dayakese and Banjarese learner?s beliefs in this context, have to do with their perceptions in effective Arabic teaching atmosphere but not in real condition in their practice at their school. 4. The Dayakese and Banjarese learners who tend to have openness to experience trait use various strategies although the level of the strategies usage is still low. In addition, the most commonly strategies used were the metacognitive strategies.
