ABSTRACT Generally, the learning of reading skill in every school, Especially in the Islamic Junior High School have not achieved the expected result. It can be seen from the result of student achievement in learning reading skill. In the case there are difficulties faced by students during the learning process, including the difficulty of understanding the specified text reading in learning skill. Thus the resercher wants to increase students understanding of VIII The Islamic Junior High School KHA. Wahid Hasyim Bangil through the use of Numbered Head Together Cooperative Learning method. By using this learning researcher has one purpose to give easier way for students in understanding a text reading. This research concurrently is aim to know: the description of learning process in reading skill, do the cooperative learning through the Numbered Head Together (NHT) mode to increase the reading skill in MTs. In this research the researcher used an experimental method. This method consist of two groups, experimental and non experimental group (control). While the approach in this research are observation, interview and test. The results of this research are : after using the cooperative learning method through Numbered Head Together (NHT) has effectiveness to the student?s ability in term of reading skill, because related to the t-count result 6,60 is better than t-table in 1% degree that is 2,72 and better in 5% degree that is 2,03. This result shows that H1 hypothesis is accepted and H0 is rejected. In conclusion, the using of cooperative learning method through Numbered Head Together (NHT) is effective in increasing the reading skill of MTs. KHA. Wahid Hasyim Bangil?s students. ABSTRAK Secara garis besar pembelajaran ketrampilan membaca di setiap sekolah terutama di tingkat madrasah Tsanawiyah belum mencapai hasil yang diharapkan. Hal itu dilihat dari hasil prestasi siswa dalam pembelajaran ketrampilan membaca. Dalam hal ini pasti terdapat kesulitan-kesulitan diantaranya adalah kesulitan memahami teks bacaan yang ditentukan dalam pembelajaran ketrampilan membaca. Maka dari itu, peneliti ingin meningkatkan pemahaman siswa kelas VIII MTs KHA. Wahid Hasyim Bangil melalui penggunaan pembelajaran kooperatif tehnik Numbered Head Together bertujuan untuk mempermudah siswa dalam memahami sebuah teks bacaan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui: deskripsi proses pembelajaran ketrampilan membaca, untuk mengetahui penerapan pembelajaraan kooperatif tehnik Numbered Head Together untuk meningkatkan ketrampilan membaca di MTs KHA.
