Furthermore, as they live in Indonesia where English is not daily used, reading is the one way to learn new language. It is no doubt that the students need capabilities in reading. To get a good comprehension or to be accurate and efficient in reading, the students should also consider the reading speed, the one most of the students usually left. The students of SMP 4 Kudus still have problem in reading effectively and efficiently. So, the writer conduct a research and focuses on the reading comprehension of seventh grade students of SMP 4 Kudus in academic year 2009/20010 The objectives of this research is to find out there is a significant differences between the reading comprehension of the seventh grade students of SMP N 4 Kudus in academic year 2011/2012 before and after being taught by using S3ER method. This research is experiment quantitative research. The population of this research is of the seventh grade students of SMP 4 Kudus in academic year2011/2012. The writer uses purposive sampling to get the sampling. The writer gets class seventh F as research object and class seventh G as control group. They are 34 students. The writer uses test as research instrument. The formula the test is multiple choices and consisting of 25 items. The result of the experiment shows that the calculation of t-test, with the level of significance 5%, the Degree of freedom (Df) 30, and t-table (tt) 2.04, the t-observation (to) obtained is 5.71. In other words, t-observation is higher than t-table (to > tt). In detail, after being taught by using Skill Circuits, the Mean is 69.7 or categorized as “good”. It is higher than the Mean of the reading comprehension of the seventh Grade Students of SMP 4 Kudus in the Academic Year 2011/ 2012 before being taught by using S3ER method which is 63.9 or categorized as “sufficient”. Therefore, the hypothesis of the research that states that there is a significant difference between the reading comprehension of the seventh Grade Students of SMP 4 Kudus in the Academic Year 2011/ 2012before and after being taught by using S3ER Method is confirmed. Therefore, the researcher suggests that it would be better for the teacher to use S3ER as one of the method in teaching reading comprehension and also the teacher should be creative to teach reading comprehension to the students using teaching method ex; S3ER method, so that that the students can acquire some vocabularies easily. } }
