@thesis{thesis, author={ Utami }, title ={Maxims Floutation in the “Breaking Dawn”Movie Script}, year={2012}, url={http://eprints.umk.ac.id/1227/}, abstract={English Education Department Teacher Training and Education Faculty often speak without fulfilling the maxims. They flout them because they have certain reasons. The important problem is some of them do not know the material of maxim especially floutation of maxim or flouting maxim. Base on this situation I decide to make this research in order to give understanding more deeply about maxim, flouting maxim and the implied meaning of flouted maxim. I use Grice’s theory. I attempts to analyze maxims floutation in the Breaking Dawn movie script part 1. This topic was chosen because observing maxims of Cooperative Principle is very important in order to make successful and meaningful conversations. On the contrary, the flouting maxims are needed too in order to make a humorous dialogue. This research is intended to find out (1) the types of maxims are flouted in the Breaking Dawn movie script, and (2) the implied meanings of the flouted maxims. This research limits the discussion to the four flouting maxims found in the Breaking Dawn movie script part 1. This research uses descriptive method. The data of this research are the maxims in the conversation among the characters of Breaking Dawn movie part 1 that flouted the conversational maxims. The technique of collecting data was based on the purpose of the research. The result shows that the numbers of flouting maxims in the Breaking Dawn movie script part 1 are 60 maxims. Those are flouting quantity (30), and flouting relevance (29) and the least is flouting quality (1), I did not find flouting manner. Mostly, the implied meaning of the flouting maxims of quantity is avoiding misunderstanding. Another words, the implied meaning of flouting maxim of relevance is making a joke. For the students, the lecturers, the teachers, other researchers, I suggest that they observe the whole maxims, because in a communication we need to give enough information, qualified, and relevant information in a clear way in order to make successful communication. } }
