Teaching based language teaching is emphasizing in process in teaching language which focus on communication as the main point in TBLT. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of using task-based language teaching toward students‟ writing in narrative text at SMP Negeri 10 Kendari. The design of this study was quasi experimental research. The sample of this study was two cohorts of students SMP Negeri 10 Kendari registered in academic years 2017/2018. They were grade VIII.3 as the experimental group and grade VIII.1 as the control group. Task-based language teaching was taught in experimental group, but it was not applied in control group. In control group was applied conventional. Both cohorts were taught the same topic. The test was administered before the treatment (pretest) to examine the students‟ previous writing achievement and it was then compared with their posttest to examine their achievement after being taught using task- based language teaching approach. The data of this study were computed and analyzed using SPSS 20. The data analysis indicates that gain scores of students attending task-based language teaching approach are significantly higher that those of students attending conventional (p =0.000 < 0.05). Thus, the null hypothesis is rejected in favour of the alternative hypothesis.Therefore, the researcher recommends to the teacher to apply this approach in the classroom especially in teaching writing to create a good learning environment.
