		abstract={English plays an important role in business communication, particularly in foreign business or trade. However, it is not easy for people to learn English and master the language. Having lack of knowledge and skills of English can give rise to errors, for example grammatical ones which will lead to business losses for a company due to misunderstanding. The objectives of this research are to show the types of grammatical errors found in the English email messages at SML INDONESIA PRIVATE Serpong, Tangerang and to show the possible causes of the errors found in the email messages. This research applies qualitative approach. The research data containing the outgoing English email messages were collected from the Product Material Control Division of products and purchases of the company. In analyzing the data, the theory of Dulay, Krashen and Burt on the types of error and the theory of Brown on the sources of error were employed.  The research findings reveal that the four categories of grammatical errors ? omission, addition, misformation, and misordering errors are found in the outgoing English email messages written by the employees of the private company, and that they respectively made the four types of errors ? the misformation errors (40.00 %), addition errors (36.36 %), misordering errors (53.33 %), and omission errors (73.33%). With regard to the possible causes of the grammatical errors made by the employees in writing their outgoing English email messages, the errors were made due to the intralingual transfer annd interlingual transfer. The intralingual errors are the ones made due to the employees? lack of English grammar knowledge, and the interlingual errors are the ones due to the influence of their native language, Bahasa Indonesia. As such, it is concluded that the four types of the grammatical errors and the causes of such errors whcih are only due to the intralingual transfer and the interlingual transfer are found in the data.
