Smoking is a serious, dangerous and deadly problem. The proportion of teenage smokers in our country is unfortunate, considering the results of smoking in the future. Prevention efforts must be started from junior high school to prevent an increase in the prevalence of smokers by providing intervention such as small group discussion using STAD (Student Team Achievement Division) and jigsaw techniques and their combination. The objective of the research was to analyze the influence of small group discussion using STAD and jigsaw techniques on smoking prevention behavior in MTS Amin Darussalam. The research employed quasi-experiment design with pretest and posttest. The population was all first-year students in MTS Amin Darussalam. The samples were 60 respondents that were taken by employing purposive sampling technique. They were divided into three groups with different interventions and 20 students each in STAD, jigsaw and combination groups. The data were collected through direct observation and questionnaires filled out by the respondents. The data were analyzed by applying Wilcoxon, Kruskal Wallis, and Mann Whitney testing at confidence intervals 95%. The results of the analysis demonstrated that group discussion with STAD, jigsaw and combination techniques increased respondents? achievement in pre and post interventions. Combination group showed some achievement after intervention compared to STAD and jigsaw groups. It is suggested that new approach is taken to change teenage smoking, especially students of MTS (Islamic Junior High School) or the same level, by providing knowledge using combination model of STAD and jigsaw techniques. An anti-smoking program needs to be routinely conducted by UKS (School Health Unit) or by extracurricular activities to create students? and teachers? concern and awareness of the danger of smoking.} }
