The process of loading and unloading containers at general port of container using gantry crane so make that the process is done quickly and efficiently. The process of loading and unloading containers on MV. Pekan Riau at the alternative port of Gunung Tabur East Kalimantan use Crane Barge Ship Tarakan Raya takes along time because the process using crane. The purpose of this research is to find out how is the procedure of loading and unloading carried out. 
This is a descriptive qualitative research with describing detailed about the process of loading and unloading of containers at the alternative port of Gunung Tabur using crane and the  process is done in stages in each bay. When there is damage with the loading and unloading equipment, the process of loading and unloading will be  stopped and for the implementation of loading and unloading will be different stages. The process of loading and unloading at the alternative port of Gunung Tabur is only done when the crane barge ship did not grounded because the water of Berau river was receding. 
Based on the results of this study concluded that the process of loading and unloading containers at the alternative port of Gunung Babur East Kalimantan use crane barge ship is not efficient because the process  is done using a crane of vessel so make that the time for the process occurs in a very long time. If there is damage with the loading and unloading equipment, especially on the crane of ship and when the crane barge ship have grounded because the water of river was receding, time to complete the process of loading and unloading will be longer than before. From the above conclusion that the process of loading and unloading containers in ports should not use the crane of vessel but use the gantry crane for the time loading and unloading process can be resolved quickly
