This novel illustrates the battle Tagore had with himself between the ideas of Western culture and revolution against Western culture when India is colonized by British. These ideas portrayed in one of the main character named Nikhil. In the novel, Tagore represents himself as Nikhil character posits in the middle between British and India cultures who is hybrid. The main purpose of this research is to describe hybrid identity of Nikhil as one of the main characters in the novel within the context of colonized society and Swadeshi movement. In conducting this research, the writer applied post-colonial approach and hybrid identity theory by Homi. K. Bhabha. In addition, this research applied a descriptive qualitative method to depict clearly about the problem by using the words. The writer also conducted library research in the context of the data collecting process. The data came from the dialogues and narrations about hybrid identity of Nikhil character in The Home and the World novel. Based on the research conducted it can be concluded that the impact of British colonialism leads the form of hybrid identity process in India society. The first there is hybrid identity of Nikhil as a part of colonized society in education, lifestyle, culture, and social aspects. The second is hybrid identity of Nikhil in the Swadeshi movement.} }
