		abstract={The elderly often experience various setbacks in the body's organs as a result, the elderly are susceptible to physical disorders, physical problems that generally occur in the elderly, one of which is the musculoskeletal system including gout arthritis, gout arthritis often causes pain, one of which is knee pain, pain management in the elderly by using drugs. The drug is not suitable for the elderly due to a decrease in kidney function in drug metabolism, therefore it is replaced with non-pharmacological therapy, namely red ginger. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of red ginger compresses on knee pain in the elderly with gouty arthritis in East Limehe Village. This type of pre-experimental research using a one group pretest posttest design, the elderly population as many as 144 elderly, a total sample of 10 people using a sampling technique by accidental sampling and the statistical test used is the paired t-test. The results obtained that the pain scale before being given a red ginger compress was a moderate pain scale of 10 respondents (100%) with an average of 5.50 and the pain scale after being given a ginger compress was a mild pain scale of 10 respondents (100%) with an average 2.00, the results show that there is a difference in pain scale before and after being given red ginger compresses with a p-value of 0.000 (<? 0.05). The conclusion is that there is an effect of red ginger compresses on knee pain in the elderly with gouty arthritis in East Limehe Village.}
