If we see a steel plate just placed in the open air, corrosion will happen. SS400 (Structural Steel) is a low carbon steel (Mild Steel) that complies with ASTM A36 or JIS G3101 standards. There are many methods to inhibit the corrosion process. One of the many methods is the use of inhibitors. Organic inhibitor is a type of inhibitor that is non-toxic, inexpensive, readily available in nature, easy to renew and does not damage the environment. Corrosion inhibitors come from organic and inorganic compounds. In this study, extracts of chili and rotten tomatoes were used as corrosion inhibitors. The inhibitor is used on SS400 carbon steel material in a solution of 1 M HCl and 1 M H?SO?. There are 2 methods to measure the corrosion rate, both methods are using the weight loss method and the polarization method and then calculating the efficiency of the inhibitor. Thermodynamic parameters of the inhibitor are also calculated. to determine the type of bond between the inhibitor and the metal whether there is a physisorption or chemisorption bond. Adsorption is a physical event that occurs on the surface of a material which is influenced by the adsorbent and the adsorbed substance. Adsorption is the accumulation of "interphase" or concentration of "substances" on the surface. The inhibitor performance of the mixed extract of chili and rotten tomatoes against the corrosion rate of mild steel 400 in 1 M HCl solution had an inhibitor efficiency of 93% and a 1 M H?SO? solution had an inhibitor efficiency of 57%.
