The aim of this study are to identify and to describe the dominant types of motivation towards listening subject. This study applied quantitative descriptive as the research method. The object of this study are the students of English Department, fifth semester, class of 2016, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. To collect the data, the researcher uses questionnaire as an instrument to gathering the data. The questionnaire consist of 6 indicator and 18 question, there were 30 students from 5 class. In analyzing the data, the researcher used some theories that relevant to this study. These theories are the theory of motivation, and the theory of descriptive formula. As the result of this study, this research found that extrinsic motivation is a types of motivation which dominant than intrinsic motivation with result percentage 80% extrinsic motivation and 75% intrinsic motivation.
