This research uses descriptive qualitative research with a syntactic approach. The method used is the listening method by collecting data and analyzing data and listening to the use of language in the data. Sources of data were taken from 30 English essays by grade 1 students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Ummul Quro Al Islami. This study uses the interference theory proposed by Weinreich. The results of the analysis found that from 30 students' English essays, it was found that there were 9 interferences in phrasing which were divided into 7 interferences of noun phrases and 2 interferences of prepositional phrases and 10 interferences of verbal clauses and 2 interferences of sentence composition.
