The design of this research was mixed method design and the instruments used were questionnaire, interview and observation. The participant of this research were thirty-one students. In obtaining the data, the research firstly used questionnaire, which consists of twenty-nine questions. In the questionnaire, the researcher asked about the students? preparation on applying extensive listening, the process of extensive listening activity and the students? perceptions on the application of extensive listening activity. Secondly, the researcher interviewed the students to confirm the implemetation and their perceptions on extensive listening activity. Thirdly, the reseacher observed the students activity inside the class after they had done extensive listening activity. The results of questionnaire, interview, and observation data revealed that the second semester students of English Department in Jambi University had positive perceptions on applying extensive listening activity. The students had well preparation before doing extensive listening activity. The teacher and the students discussed the instruction and the topic together in order to make the activity run well. It was their first time on applying extensive listening activity so the students took a note and rewatched it for understanding the listening text. By applying extensive listening activity, it helped them to improve their listening skill including recognize words, main point of the text, and accent of the speaker. It also helped them find their strength and weaknesses. Finding materials that familiar with them were important because it would affect the students? motivation in learning language. The students also faced same difficulties while doing extensive listening such as accent and lack of vocabulary. Furthermore, all of the students tend to do extensive listening in a quiet place so they can be focus while doing the activity.} }
