This study's aim is to identified the provenance of the Gumai Formation sandstones in the study area based on petrographic analysis on thin sections from seven sandstone samples taken in the study area. Megascopic analysis, petrographic analysis based on the classification of carbonate sediment from R.C. Selley (2000), and provenance identification using a modified provenance diagram from Zhang et al.,(2016) were all used in the research. The observation of 7 (seven) sandstone outcrops revealed sedimentary structures such as layering structures and laminated structures with the orientation of strike N 292° E - N 345° E, dip ranges from 8-28°, and the grain sizes of the rock with range from medium sand to coarse sand (0.25 mm - 0.5 mm). Furthermore, the results of the petrographic analysis show that the sandstones include the Sandy Limestone, Sandy Claystone, and Calcarous Claystone (Selley Classification, 2000), while for the results of provenance analysis it was found that the sandstones originated from the tectonic setting of the Recycle Orogen Provenances zone to the Magmatic-Arc zone (Zhang, et al., 2016). Based on the analysis results, it can be interpreted that the clastic material contained in sandstones is the result of the breakdown of material both from volcanic to plutonic material which is influenced by the tectonic process in the form of a subduction zone.} }
