	This research was conducted to know the effect of semantic mapping strategy on students? reading comprehension achievement at the eighth grade students of SMPN 9 Palangka Raya in academic year 2018/2019. The method used in this research was experimental quantitative, in which the researcher applied a strategy in teaching reading comprehension to help students overcome their problem in reading English text. The strategy was Semantic Mapping. The process of teaching-learning by using semantic mapping strategy was called treatment. 
	The subject of this research was choosen by cluster random sampling technique which was class VIII-B that consisted of 25 students as a sample. In collecting  the data, the researcher used two tests named pre-test and posttest, also students? quistionnaire as a secondary instrument. Before applying the test, the researcher conducted the try out to measure the realibility of the instruments. Then, the researcher analyzed the two test to find out the effect of the treatment. The researcher used One Group Pre-Test and Posttest Design as a design of this research.	
The result of this research showed that the students? achievement scores are increasing. Where the students mean scores on pre-test was 42,38 and on posttest was 74,04. It showed that the students? mean score on posttest was higher than pretest. In specific, the researcher can conclude that semantic mapping strategy gave significant effect to students? reading comprehension achievement of the eighth grade students of SMPN 9 Palangka Raya in academic year 2018/2019 in reading comprehension, especially short adjective text. This research had been proved by the t-test analysis to reject H0 and to accepted Ha  where df = 20 of |t*| > t?.?? {20} = -0,122 > -1,725. Then, H0 is rejected or Ha is accepted.}
