Abstract :
In line with the globalization era, energy is continuously developed including the development of energy sector using solar heat or what is known as solar power station (Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Surya or PLTS). Solar power station is usually installed in a middle-scale power station or in houses that are energy self-sufficient and as the electrical power for street lights. Recently, the solar power technology is developed to be installed on the roof of bus vehicles. The change from personal transportation mode to mass transportation mode (bus) can reduce energy consumption. Electrical bus is a bus that uses solar panel installed on the bus as its source of energy, but the solar panel installed is used only for the electrical system of the bus. The Indonesian bus standardhas electrical power of 455 W/h with a dimension of Length: 12000 MM, Width: 2500 MM, Height: 3500 MM, with an output of 11.967 CC that produces power amounted 310 Kw (or 422 HP) on 2.000 RPM and the highest torque at 1.900 Nm on 1.100 RPM.For most buses operated in Indonesia, especially in Java Island, each bus needs 250 liter of diesel fuel every day. Consider if 1000 busses are in operation everyday, there is 250000 liter of diesel fuel used every day in this period in which the diesel fuel consumption has been constrained. The difference in the consumption is not substantial if the bus uses LPG as its fuel. By installing 10 130-Wp solar power panels, 4 batteries, and 1 inverter to operate an electrical system of a bus, this solar panel system is able to reduce the load on the bus machine. This system can be used to power AC (air conditioner) compressor so that it will reduce the load on the machine and it can be equipped with a driver monitoring system. The solar panel can help saved the diesel fuel by installing it on the bus roof to absorb the solar heat and store it in a bus battery. This will save the diesel fuel from 250 liter currently to 200 liter if the solar power is used.
