Abstract :
Changement of reactive power load of a synchronous alternator implies changement of its terminal voltage and if this value increases over thbigger than its nominal voltage, the alternator may desynchronized. To solve this problem, an Automatic Voltage Regulator is used to maintain the terminal voltage at a constant value by regulating the excitation current in the rotor field winding. A malfunction of the AVR will cause loss of excitation or over excitation. To solve loss of excitation on the GT11 Alternator of PLTGU Sengkang, a Mho relay (ANSI Code 40) is used and therefore to solve over excitation a V/Hz relay (ANSI Code 24) is used. In this these, the function of these relays are to be analyzed by comparing the actual setting value of GT11 Alternator of PLTGU Sengkang with the setting value according to IEEE Std. C37.102-2006.
