Abstract :
Nowdays, electricity demand is increasing. As consumer, people desire a continuous distribution of electricity without blackouts. But the fact remains outages occur due to interference, as the cause of the outage, absolutely can not be eliminated, only minimized. Therefore, the electric power distribution system reliability should be improved. One of its efforts to do is improve the equipment performance of electricity distribution grid, such as insulator. Pivot insulator that had been used in Indonesia is pin type and line post type insulator. And then, in order to improve the reliability of electric power distribution system, a new type of insulator has been invented, called pin post type insulator. This paper focuses on the effect of the use of pin post insulator to improve the reliability, proven by research of leakage current, power losses, creepage distances and flashover voltage. The results showed that by using a pin post type insulators will be able to improve the reliability.
