Abstract :
Studies have been conducted on the effect of shading photovoltaic array (PV) using thin film a-Si / uc-Si modules on a photovoltaic system capacity of about 1 kWp which is connected to the grid. The study was conducted at the Center of Energy Conversion and Energy Conservation Technology (PTKKE), Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), at PUSPIPTEK, Serpong. Effect of shading done on one of the PV modules in one unit of the PV array is composed of 3 units of PV modules connected in series. Each PV module has power capacity of about 110 Wp, and It?s composed of 99 PV cells connected in series on the vertical direction. There are 3 units of the PV array in the PV system, and each of the PV array is connected parallel. The parameters measured in the study is electrical current and voltage, the intensity of the light that comes on the surface of the PV module, the rear surface of the PV module temperature. From the results of the study showed that the shading in the vertical position, that are the direction of the arrangement of the PV cells are connected in series, having the most influence on the electrical output of the PV array compared with horizontal and diagonal position. In shading with an area of about ¼ of the total PV module in one unit of the PV array can reduce the output power of about 78% in the vertical position, 22% in the diagonal position and 9% in the horizontal position. The magnitude of the percentage reduction in the electrical power output of PV array will be greater by the extent of shading area.
