Abstract :
The use of electrical energy is needed in every industry to support the continuity of the production process. In the process of distributing electrical energy, PLN divides the types of industrial customers into I2, I3 and I4 rates. This type of customer in electricity usage is subject to a monthly kWH usage fee and kVARh usage. For customers with this type of rates, the load is always inductive because the electrical equipment used always absorbs kVARh. If the greater the value of the power factor, the smaller the value of kVARh so that the cost of using kVARh gets smaller. PLN customers with the industrial rates category are charged the excess kVARh if the power factor value is <0.85 lagging. For kVARh use with a power factor of 0.85 and above, customers are not subject to penalty fees. For this reason, in an effort to reduce kVARh costs, some customers tried to increase the value of the power factor to ? 0.85 lagging. In this paper, we will discuss how to analyze the selection, placement and installation of capacitors in industrial customers. This research was conducted at PT. A which is engaged in the production and distribution of plastic seeds. PT. A is subject to a kVARh fine because the excess value of kVARh for 3 months has exceeded 62% of the provisions of its kVAR power, therefore calculation of the required capacitor capacity while calculating its effect on the voltage repairs obtained from the PLN electricity account data. From the results of the calculation of the value of the average power factor for 3 months is 0.47, it is determined for the improvement of the power factor in the operation of PT. A to be 0.85 lagging requires a capacitor of 35 kVARh.
