Abstract :
One important problem in operating a distribution system is how to deal with fault quickly and precisely. Therefore, a reliable protection system is needed to protect equipment from interference. Kinds of fault that often occurs in electric power distribution systems is a single line to ground fault. This fault can engender sympathetic trip fault, which is a condition where the CB on feeder which fault does not occurs also trips because of fault taken place on another feeder on the same busbar. This final project discusses the symptoms of the sympathetic trip and its effect on equipment in the distribution line, especially the 20-kV feeder and the inverse time ground fault relay settings are used on feeders are located on the same busbar to obtain a more optimal distribution system reliability using descriptive quantitative research methods. Study case under consideration focused on feeders on transformer 2 at Jatake substation, where the results obtained that by using inverse time relay, sympathetic trip fault due to capacitive currents can be avoided.
