Abstract :
Synchronous generator is a device that functions to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy. Synchronous generators in generating units have an important role in the generation of electrical energy. A synchronous generator can generate electricity because it is equipped with an excitation system. The role of the excitation system is very important to maintain the stability of the generator output voltage against changing loads. Excitation system in synchronous generator at PLTU Lestari Banten Energi uses a type of static excitation that uses brush media as a conductor of excitation currents. Changes in the excitation current affect the reactive power produced. If the excitation current increases, the reactive power will increase and vice versa. Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) as an automatic voltage regulator serves to stabilize the generator output voltage despite load changes. From the data obtained the variation of the generator output voltage is -4.45% to +0.3%. So that the generator output voltage still remains in accordance with the standards set at the plant that does not exceed ± 5%. If the generator voltage is below nominal then the AVR will stabilize the voltage by increasing the excitation current and vice versa.
