Abstract :
Induction motors are types of electric machines that are commonly used in industry, because they
have high efficiency and affordable prices. The position of the induction motor is very important
in the industrial world, to protect the induction motor. One effort to protect the induction motor
itself is to use an overcurrent relay to secure a short circuit. Therefore, selective and reliable
overcurrent relays are needed to coordinate their work. This research method uses a program to
analyze Single Line Diagrams to simulate overcurrent relay coordination settings, and compares
Time Dial settings, namely Definite Time relays used in the field with relays with Standard Inverse
characteristics which will be calculated by the IEC formula. The results of the Time Dial
calculation of the Standard Inverse characteristics using the IEC standard have smaller results
than the Definite Time. A relay with a small Time Dial is a reliable relay in disconnecting to the
Circuit Breaker. Standard Inverse and Definite Time are the parameters studied. Based on the
results obtained in this study, the researchers suggest the use of Standard Inverse Time Multiple
Settings (TMS) as an overcurrent relay setting for Circuit Breaker breakers, in order to protect
the 6kV induction motor at PLTU Unit 3 Tarahan.
