Abstract :
In the network of electric power systems, especially in plants, there are several cases that
can provoke instability. One of the cases that pt. PLN (Persero) Load Control Service
Unit (UP2B) is a system frequency that often rises and falls. The plant must be able to
detect and respond quickly and precisely when such frequency changes occur. For this
reason, frequency control is needed so that the system works stably, namely the primary
controller (Free Governor) and the secondary controller (LFC / AGC). The use of AGC
in Indonesia is still said to be new, compared to LFC which is generally used by existing
plants in Indonesia. Because the control of AGC is still relatively new to the need for
further development, therefore the purpose of this study is to find out how the response of
coal-fired power plants that use AGC compared to LFC and see the control of the
frequency response of plants using AGC and LFC at the same time at the time of
disruption. To make a comparison, the way that is done is by collecting data on the
response of plants using LFC and AGC. From the comparison carried out, it is known
that plants that use LFC respond faster to changes in frequency than AGC, but to restore
a stable state faster AGC compared to LFC, and AGC control is in the UP2B (Control
Center) so that the economic dispatch will be taken into account.
