Abstract :
Along with the increasing burden that must be borne by the electric power system, the number of generation and transmission lines required will also increase. This causes the system to be more complex, susceptible to interference, and to varying voltage levels. This study aims to optimize the placement and placement of capacitor banks in a radial distribution network using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) method. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) method is a new method related to the location and capacity placement of capacitor banks in a radial distribution network. This study uses the MATLAB application to see the use of PSO in a radial distribution network. From the simulation results, the most optimal number of capacitors is 2 capacitor banks on bus 2 and bus 24 with capacities of 101 kvar and 544 kvar, respectively. In addition, the value of power losses in the IEEE 34 bus radial distribution network without a capacitor bank is 66.23 kW and the value of power losses in the IEEE 34 bus radial distribution network with 2 capacitor banks, 1.91 KW and 1.88 KW, respectively.
