Abstract :
Generators play an important role in the electricity generation system in distributing
electrical energy, so a protection system is needed that can secure the generator when a
short circuit occurs, one of which is a differential relay that can overcome short circuit
disturbances without delay. To improve the reliability of the differential generator relay,
it is necessary to evaluate the performance of the relay so that it can be said that the relay
works when there is a short circuit. This study uses a comparative quantitative method
by comparing the results of tests that have been carried out, manufacture settings,
calculation results, and simulation of relay performance using ETAP software. Where the
test results and calculations are compared with the manufacture calculation settings. Test
data obtained during major inspection testing in 2018 and turbine inspection in 2021.
Test results in 2018 and 2021 obtained comparison results on pickup current
measurements of 0%. For the measurement of pickup time, a comparison of 0.01 s - 0.02
s is obtained. While the comparison between the calculation and the manufacture
calculation, there is a difference of 0.06 A for the pickup current and a slope of 10%,
because the calculation does not include the provisions of the manufacture calculation.
Then for the simulation using ETAP software, it can be said that the relay works when
the disturbance is in the protection area and does not work when the disturbance is
outside the protection area.
