Abstract :
The use of electricity from year to year is increasing and has an impact on the use of
inductive loads that are increasingly diverse. The use of inductive loads generates reactive
currents which will cause an increase in power loss and a decreased voltage profile. One
way to overcome this condition is to use a bank. However, excess banks need to be placed
in the right locations and capacities to maximize power loss. So that in this research, the
best position and capacity will be searched using the genetic algorithm method to achieve
the minimum reduction in power loss. Algorithm method is a method that is based on
biological evolution and is able to solve complex and parallel problems. After simulating
using the genetic method, the results of the optimization of bank installation are obtained
on bus 10 and bus 26 with a capacity of 2.33 Mvar for each bus so as to reduce power
loss up to 31%. In addition, the value of the voltage profile on the system also increased
by 3.28% from before the vendor bank installation. So it can be said that the Genetic
Algorithm method can be used as an alternative method to get the optimal location and
capacity to reduce power losses and improve the voltage profile.
