Abstract :
Nowadays environmental pollution is quite worrying, not only a negative effect on living
things, the existence of environmental pollution can also damage the physical condition
of an object. In an electric power system, a conductor is made of a conducting material,
where the conductor material can be affected by the surrounding conditions. Conductors
located in certain places such as coastal areas and factory waste disposal areas are very
easily contaminated by chemical compounds, such as NaCl and HCl because these areas
can produce these chemical compounds which can interfere with the performance of the
conductor. Carriers that were not problematic could have problems because they are
contaminated by chemical compounds in some of these areas. Rain is a natural
phenomenon where rainwater containing acid or salt (electrolysis) can cause a
breakdown voltage in the conductor. Raindrops contain acids and salts that can cause
breakdown voltages. In this study, an analysis of the effect of NaCl & HCl contaminants
was tested on the Resistance and Translucent Voltage of Medium Voltage Air Insulation.
Based on the test results, it is found that the more contaminants contained, the faster the
breakdown of the voltage and can damage the physical condition of the conductor.
