Abstract :
This research was conducted to determine the quality and resistance of solid porcelain
insulators by testing the breakdown voltage which is influenced by temperature and
pollutants. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of temperature and
pollutants on the breakdown voltage of 20kV porcelain insulators. The method used in
this research is the experimental method of testing the breakdown voltage in the High
Voltage Laboratory. In this study, the Air correction factor was used to obtain a standard
breakdown voltage. From the results of the study, it was found that when the temperature
variable increased, even though there were variations, the breakdown voltage of the
insulator increased, the highest value at 38ºC was 91.12kV, while the lowest at 30ºC was
84.15 kV. With the pollutant mass variable, when the pollutant mass increases, the
breakdown voltage of the insulator is reduced, at a pollutant mass of 30 grams the
breakdown voltage is 75.49 kV and with a pollutant mass of 150 grams the breakdown
voltage is 61.22 kV. With the increase in pollutant mass and temperature variables, the
breakdown voltage value decreases because the pollutant has an effect on decreasing the
breakdown voltage value, at 30 gram pollutant mass it is 75.04 kV, and with a pollutant
mass of 150 grams it is 63.11 kV
