Abstract :
After overhauling the Air Preheater, the performance (effectiveness) will increase. However, the improved performance (effectiveness) after overhauling the Air Preheater will only last for a few months because there will be contamination in the Air Preheater, especially in the heating element which inhibits the heat transfer process and the plate on the heating element will also be damaged. Air Preheater used in Suralaya Power Station Unit 2 is Air Preheater Howden Bi-sector and the type is Regenerative. In order to know the performance (effectiveness) of the Air Preheater used in Suralaya Power Plant Unit 2 is by referring to the parameters of LMTD, the number of transfer units (NTU) and the Inlet Flue gas temperature conditions. For the working conditions based on Optimum Load during the operating period. Based on observations, the performance (effectiveness) of the Air Preheater shows fluctuating results because there are various influencing factors such as the Inlet Flue gas and Inlet Air temperature, the Gas and Air Heat Capacity, the Heat Capacity (C), and the condition of the Air Preheater heating element. Air Preheater Mill and Air Preheater Main will experience differences in performance (effectiveness) because they have different surface area and Inlet Flue gas temperature. Data samples after overhaul are not always better than sample data before overhaul. This is influenced by several factors including the temperature of the Inlet Flue gas and Inlet Air temperature, the Gas and Air Heat Capacity, the Heat Capacity (C), and the condition of the Air Preheater heating element. In addition, differences in element replacement time or element cleaning frequency will also affect the performance (effectiveness) of each APH.
