Abstract :
NiCrMn alloy laterite steel has the potential as an alternative raw material for steel which has a high toughness. This research was carried out with the aim to determine the characteristics of laterite steel according to standards seen from the chemical composition of mechanical properties and microstructure after the forging process was desired with various forging loads. Cold forging process carried out at a temperature of 900oC using 3 variations of load 50,75,100 tons and water cooling media. The results of the Forging Process seen by metallographic observations after Charpy impact testing and Rockwell hard test B. The results of the analysis on hardness, toughness and metallographic testing show that with increasing load and the number of blows increases the strength value of the steel. At a blow 20 times with a load of 100 tons experiences a level of hardness, higher toughness compared to other variations. And for structures found during metallographic testing are martensitic, ferlit and pearlite structures.
