Abstract :
The stability of active power and frequency between the generator and the network system
must be maintained because it can cause damage to the generator. Frequency stability is
affected by the speed drop setting. Speed droop is a percentage number which indicates the
sensitivity of a generating unit in response to changes in frequency, inaccurate speed droop
settings will affect the work of the generating unit. The purpose of this study is to analyze the
speed droop operating modes, compare the speed droop operating modes with the kw mode
operating modes and determine the percentage value of speed droop used in the Bangkanai
PLTMG. This study uses quantitative methods with descriptive analysis techniques. The
source used is the Bangkanai PLTMG generator data, the data will be analyzed based on
data from the operation of the kw mode mode and the operating data of the speed droop
mode. Based on these data, when the speed droop operating mode is below 49.7 Hz, the
machine responds by changing the operating mode to kw mode for 10 minutes, after the
operating mode frequency is 50 Hz, the operating mode changes back to speed droop mode.
The percentage of the speed droop value is 1.62% with power ramp rate increase of 163
kw/sec (a combination of speed droop and kw mode). During thekwW Mode operation mode
when there is a change in frequency/interference the engine does not respond resulting in a
trip on the generator.
