Abstract :
The electrical power system plays a vital role in maintaining the sustainability of modern
life; hence, the reliability and operational stability of the power network are of utmost
importance. In this context, the effective use of protection against disturbances in the
transmission network becomes crucial. Distance relay are among the essential protective
devices for identifying and responding to faults in transmission lines by measuring the
impedance of the line. Proper coordination and settings of distance relays are critical
aspects in ensuring the network's operational reliability. This thesis aims to investigate
the role of distance relays in handling disturbance situations in the 150 kV Kemayoran -
Ancol - Angke transmission line. The case study focuses on a disturbance in Bay Pht
Angke 2, which led to significant outages and disconnections of loads in the Ancol
subsystem area. The research consists of several analytical stages. First, an in-depth
analysis is conducted to identify the root causes of the disturbance and its impacts on the
power supply. Subsequently, an evaluation is performed on the existing settings and
coordination of distance relays in the network. The utilization of DIgSilent simulation
software enables the simulation of disturbances and the response of distance relays in
complex scenarios. The outcomes of this study are expected to provide a deeper insight
into the importance of proper settings and coordination of distance relays in maintaining
the reliability of the transmission network.
