Abstract :
In the distribution of electric power, power losses may occur due to several factors,
including load imbalance at the distribution substation. From the results of transformer
load measurements at PT. PLN (Persero) ULP Sukabumi Kota in 2022, found a load
imbalance on each phase which causes a large neutral current and causes power loss.
To prevent power loss due to load imbalance, a load balancing method is used to reduce
the neutral current. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of load balancing in
reducing load imbalance and power loss due to neutral currents in distribution
transformers in Kadupugur feeders. The calculation results show that the unbalanced
load causes power losses and the neutral current of the transformer is greater than when
the load is balanced. After balancing the load on 11 of the 32 distribution substations in
the Kadupugur feeder, the average value of the reduction in power loss was 80%, from
2,809.40 Watts to 549.07 Watts. The relatively small difference between the average value
of the power loss resulting from the measurement data and the ETAP simulation before
balancing is 0.29% and after balancing is 0.54%, indicating the accuracy of the
calculation results. Therefore, load balancing at the distribution substation can help
reduce power losses and transformer neutral currents, thereby increasing the efficiency
and life of electrical equipment.
