Abstract :
This thesis aims to evaluate the characteristics of polymer, glass, and ceramic insulation
in the 20 kV Medium Voltage (MV) Overhead Lines of PT. PLN (Persero) UP3 Binjai. The
research is conducted because the insulation quality in MV Overhead Lines plays a
crucial role in maintaining the reliability of the power system. The evaluation is carried
out through visual inspection, leakage current test, flashover voltage, and insulation
resistance tests on samples of polymer, glass, and ceramic insulation that have been in
operation within the network for a specific period. This research adopts an experimental
approach by taking samples from several locations within the 20 kV MV Overhead Lines
network. The research findings indicate that the polymer, glass, and ceramic insulation
in the 20 kV MV Overhead Lines of PT. PLN (Persero) UP3 Binjai still meet the
established standards. Although there is a slight decline in the performance of some
insulation samples that have been in operation within the network for a certain period,
they remain within safe limits and can function effectively. This research is expected to
provide a deeper understanding of the insulation conditions in the 20 kV MV Overhead
Lines network, enabling PT. PLN (Persero) UP3 Binjai to take appropriate preventive
measures or maintenance actions to uphold the reliability and performance of their power
system.
